A FUTURE TOGETHER?: Bridging this great divide... →
Despite coming from an extremely consistent story of origins, Asian Americans divide starkly along religious lines on the college campus. Each side - religious & non-religious claims one view of reality to stake their identity on (one spiritual/moral, the other physical/cultural) - leaving them distant from (if not at odds with) the other. But more than just an unpleasant disunity, this divide...

"When There's More To Winning Than Winning" - NPR →
Thanks Anna for the share. “It was senior night, and the loudest cheers went to Cory Weissman, No. 3, 5 feet 11 inches, a team captain — especially when he walked out onto the court as one of Gettysburg’s starting five. Yes, he was a captain, but it was, you see, the first start of his college career. Cory had played a few minutes on the varsity as a freshman, never even scoring. But...

YBTT - Duke Chronicle →
This past week, the Honor Council launched a campaign titled YBTT. If we were successful, you saw the slogan popping up all over campus: YBTT flyers playing off the Duke meme craze, foil YBTTs hanging from campus fixtures and even a “mural” on the East Campus bridge. Hopefully the ubiquity of the message prompted you to ask yourself what those letters actually mean.

Advice from Raymond Teller, of famed magician duo Penn and Teller, to fellow magician Brian Brushwood. Very much applicable to those beyond just aspiring-magicians. (found via /r/magic). For those who have not seen Teller in action, here’s a start.

David Lee Roth (of Van Halen) on why Van Halen contracts contained a “No Brown M&Ms” clause.  A worker at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) told me about this story, but it’s still cool hearing Roth talk about it himself.

ingesting life
bluegiraffe: What’s the big deal about coming in and sharing a meal? When you eat a meal in someone’s home, you’re not just eating their food, you’re ingesting their life. Heard that this morning. Love the idea that when you invite someone over to eat with you, you’re inviting them to ingest your life. Sometimes I forget what’s the single best thing about myself and who’s knocking on my door...

poan: in my (all grad student) life group, we talked about how as we get older, less people tend to speak into our lives. i guess this is especially dramatic from college to post-college since in college, we live, play, eat, and study all together, so there is ample time to observe and consult. as we…
